Bible, Social Studies

I graduated from Calvin College in 1980 with a major in Special Education. In 1990, I received my MA from Western Michigan University in Learning Disabilities. I also earned a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Michigan State University in 2000.

I taught at the Christian Learning Center for 13 years in both self-contained and inclusion programs, and at Kenowa Hills Public Schools for 22 years in special and general education settings. It has been a blessing to experience a diversity of teaching environments throughout my career, and I am grateful that I can continue to contribute to such a great profession.

My wife Jeanne and I recently celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoy spending time with family and friends. We have three sons, two amazing daughter-in-laws, and five grandchildren.  Our middle son, Paul, teaches Spanish at the Elementary and Middle School at Grandville Christian. We live in Grand Rapids and are members of Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church.

Outside of family and work, I enjoy reading, kayaking, biking, and engaging in good conversation. I find I am most grounded outside, enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.

It is a gift to fully express my faith and blend it into the curriculum that I teach at Calvin Christian Schools.  I am grateful that I work with teachers who affirm the reality of humanity as revealed in Genesis 1:26-27. God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. It is my calling to lead and affirm that fact as students grow as individuals and together as a school community.
