God has called me to the vocation of teaching and to humbly embrace this incredible responsibility. It is exciting to see students uncovering God’s bidding in their lives and learning how to serve Him. I believe education is not a path to privilege, but a path to servanthood. I seek to allow students to see there is joy as a follower of Jesus, transformation as we learn our place in His kingdom and hope for the future He has planned for us. I pray that as I interact with students they will see the fruits of the spirit reflected in how I live and learn and uncover God’s plan and path designed specifically for them. My life verse is: Colossians 3:16-17
I graduated from Calvin College in 1995 with a bachelors degree in elementary education with an emphasis in Science and English . I received my masters degree in education technology from GVSU. I also periodically take classes in order to continue learning and honing the art of teaching because “when you are through learning you are through.” (John Wooden)
My first teaching position was at a Christian school in Indiana. My wife and I moved back to this area in 1998 and I have been serving Calvin Christian since that time. While teaching at CCMS, I have taught math, science, Bible, physical education and also coached soccer, track and basketball.
My wife, Sheila, is an amazing Christ follower, friend, mother and fellow teacher who serves God. She teaches first grade at Holland Christian Schools. We have three daughters Gentille, Jillian and Alaina who are bright, energetic, fun loving students at Holland Christian. I am a proponent of play, an educational explorer, a sports enthusiast and a hunter and believe wholeheartedly that love jumps in and does stuff.
At Grandville Calvin Christian we collectively seek to live out God’s call and mission for His world. May He rule and reign here in the lives of the staff, students and parents as we seek to bring Shalom.
