When I was in junior high in New Jersey that my own art teacher challenged me to use my talents in service to God and her words made me realize my artistry was not mine but both a gift and a calling. After graduating from Calvin College with a BA and a MA in Education, I began my career teaching art at Calvin Christian Elementary School which eventually evolved into full-time position here at CCMS. For over 30 years I have had the privilege of teaching art for grades 1-12 at area Christian schools.
My heart and passion is at this wonderful school. Calvin Christian Middle is a great place for students to discover their gifts, explore their interests and be involved in opportunities to examine their place in God’s great big world and also be in service to the greater community at large and CCMS. Our compassionate and professional staff has developed unique programs that make it a pleasure to educate middle school students. I especially enjoy our exploratory classes in which I can teach different forms of art that don’t get taught in the regular curriculum.
I am married, with two children here on earth and one in Heaven. I enjoy all kinds of art, of course, but also reading, doing puzzles, cooking and baking, and traveling. I am constantly humbled by the beauty of God’s magnificent creation and hope to be able to share that kind of wonder through art with my students. Wherever we are and whatever we do, “What does the Lord require of you but to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
