This past weekend, the Calvin Christian boys and girls cross country team traveled down to the Michigan International Speedway to participate in the largest high school cross country meet of the season — the MHSAA State Finals.
This race represented the culmination of a season’s worth of hard work, and the results proved themselves to be a testament to the countless hours of practice and preparation. By the end of the race, these steadfast Squires returned home with four All-State runner titles and two top ten placements in Division Three. The four students awarded all state honors were Sheila Witvliet (19:48.8), Alicia Estrella (19:54.0), Olivia Quillan (20:00.7), and Chris Jenkins (16.50.9). Overall, the boys cross country team placed fifth, and the girls cross country team placed second. The girls cross country team’s second place victory marks the ninth year in a row that they’ve placed in the top ten, proof of the strength of Grandville Calvin Christian’s cross country program.
Though the fall cross country season has come and gone, we at Grandville Calvin Christian are excited to see what these Squires will do next. No matter what challenge they face, we’re confident that they will continue to run the race set before them, and do so in a way that is honoring and pleasing to God.
